You can't buy fashion without spending; you need to invest. You're paying for an original idea, beautiful fabric and unique details. I also don't think you can skimp on shoes. I'm a big believer in quality over quantity...".

The other day, I was reading an interview (in Australian Vogue - Dec 09) of Kit Willow-Pogdornik, designer of Willow, and I stopped short at her answer to the question "Do you have to spend to be stylish?".
See, I regularly find this question in interviews of designers, and most of the time the answer goes something like "of course not, money doesn't buy style, I'am all for mixing expensive and very cheap stuff". And while I don't disagree, I do find this a rather easy answer from those who charge the big bucks for their creations. What I read in this is "I know about the GFC and all and I don't want to upset anyone by praising luxury".
That only makes me admire Kit Willow more. She only wears her designs (and according to that article, Rick Owens jackets) and she always looks magnificent. You can see her in these pictures. And I like her luxurious pieces, her passion for draping, and the fact that she doesn't really follow fashion (or only lightly). Her jackets are magnifcient, her colors just a bit different et in her Melbourne boutique (of which Garance took a photo here),you get served champagne while you're trying on the clothes.

I don't see what is so honorable in buying cheap stuff or what is shameful in recommending to buy good expensive clothes.
